IF YOU ARE NEW TO OUR SALSA CLUB, IN ORDER TO AVOID ANY MISUNDERSTANDING, PLEASE READ ALL OF THIS!
PLEASE READ DRINKS POLICY FOR VENUES IN PARTICULAR
CKECK OUT ALSO THE INFORMATION ON FAQ PAGE! Thank you.

Salsa, bachata, merengue, kizomba & argentine tango are all partner dances, so please come with one if you can. We work on a ratio of not more than one man for two women! Contact us if you are not sure. Dancers are expected to move round in class so you will NOT remain with the same person. Style of salsa that is on offer is called Cross-body on 1, also known as LA salsa! There is footwork, technique & spinning which needs to be learned at beginner level in order to form a strong foundation so that turn patterns can be added. Please note that some people will always progress more quickly than others despite starting at the same time. They may have some previous dance ability, practice every day and stay/come for free style dancing with the experienced dancers! There is a beginner syllabus that you need to complete before moving up to the next levels. More advanced classes and/or workshops are available when you are ready to progress and you will be kept informed about these.

PERSONAL HYGEINE
This is CLOSE proximity dancing so please ensure you are nice to be near especially if you come straight from work or the Zumba class! There are adequate changing faciities in all venues if you need to freshen-up or change your clothes. Bring spare tops if necessary especially on party nights. Nice after shave and deodorants are much appreciated! If you are a smoker, please be aware of tobacco odour on your breath, hair & on clothes. There are usually mints in most salsa venues to help avoid possible mouth odours, so plese help yourself. Note also that If your clothes are left in the washing machine too long or not dried properly, then this can be quite a problem when your body starts to get hot from dancing. (This can be particularly unpleasant with trousers for both men and women). Thank your for co-operation & understanding.

PROGRESSION
It is natural that you will want to try out classes with other teachers so you can learn as much as possible & become the best you can be. However, it is always greatly appreciated if you can please give something back to salsaparami when you outgrow the classes, either by coming to help out in some way or by attending after classes for free style dancing & socialising. When you are learning, it is experienced dancers who help you to progress more effectively. This also keeps the standard up which in turn attracts more good dancers, fabulous teachers & continues to make Telford a great place for salsa! Remember, not everyone has the time or money to attend city clubs & without your local classes & club, you may not be dancing! Local clubs need local support in order to thrive & survive; it is hard to compete with all the excitement in big city environments. As the saying goes; USE IT OR LOSE IT.

GUEST TEACHERS
To aid progression, there is often a guest teacher which means you will also learn different styles of dance found in a typical salsa club! LA & Cuban style salsa, Merengue, La Rueda, Kizomba, Zumba, Bachata, Reggeaton & Bachatango are all on the menu; so you will get a good all round introduction!! This is especially useful for ladies as they need to learn to follow any style of dance or dancer, unlike leads, who can decide which style they prefer! There is also a professional guest teacher on the Friday Party nights for high improver level dancers and/or above.

DRINKS POLICY - ALL VENUES
Please, Please, Please DO NOT bring in any kind of drink(s).
This includes cans, soft drinks AND water. It is very, very hard to find good venues for salsa classes / clubs due to low bar takings; these are ALL fabulous & the owners are very supportive towards us, so please, please help us keep them! The owners do understand that those who are serious about their dancing do not over indulge in alcohol. However, you are expected to buy at least one drink (which does not have to be alcoholic). Most people wouldn’t dream of going into other bars and/or clubs without buying a drink of some kind, neither would they go into a cafe and take their own flask of coffee!

At the very least, you should be taking in water and/or fluids when you are dancing to avoid de-hydration; soft drinks are
from only 50p. If you want tap water, they are quite happy to give it provided you ask for it at the same time when you buy some type of drink. We know most of you understand the problem and always purchase a drink. This is for those who are new to salsa and/or may not appreciate the importance of bar takings! Thank you very much for your continued support, co-operation & understanding.

The following was provided by salsa dancer, Steve West!
A Super Market offers drinks often as loss leaders to get people in and buy stuff! Venues offer drinks to pay for everything they provide and the costs of that provision! The point is that a drink in a venue costs twice as much as can be bought in a Super Market so is in no way comparable!

Buying a drink in a Venue gets you...
1. The Drink
2. The Glass it comes in
3. Someone to wash the glass for you b4 your purchase
4. Someone to collect the glass from you after you've finished
5. The Venue and its décor/ambience
6. The Girl on the door
7. Cloakroom
8. Toilets & Washroom Facilities
9. Someone to clean the Venue
10. A Dancefloor
11. Effects Lighting
12. A Sound System
13. Heating
14. Air Conditioning

It pays for:
1. Electricity
2. Gas
3. Water Rates
4. Business Rates
5. Manager & Staff
6. Lease/ Mortgage
7. Stock

After paying all of the above, they'll hope to make a profit !!!
Oh and after all of that: They'll Pay Tax on that profit
